The mortuary temple of Seti I at Abydos - built by Seti (Sety) and his more famous son Ramesses the Great (Ramesses II). See some of the best preserved wall relief carvings in Egypt - some in full color - scenes involving the gods, pharoahs, priests, priestesses, ceremony and ritual religious magic. And look out for the famous "King List" of pharonic cartouches, which is the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian chronology. Abydos is located near the city of Luxor (ancient Thebes) and was the centre of the cult of Osiris - his head was buried there after he had been murdered by his brother, Seth. The Egyptians believed that the entrance to the underworld was located somewhere in the hills west of Abydos. For more about Ramesses and Seti see the books of Christian Jacq.
